How to fake tan at home is one of those hot topics at the moment. Hope you’re doing well and that you’re all safe. Since we’re mainly spending time in our homes or outside in the garden, I thought it would be the perfect time for me to show you how to fake tan at home. It’s very simple process and dare I say even enjoyable if you’re in the right mood for it. Follow my tips below – you’ll have a nice experience and a wonderful summer tan in less than 2 hours.

Choosing the right tanner

First and foremost, you need to choose the right tanner for yourself. Depending on the intensity you want to go for and the ease of application, you will want to choose a mousse. Your best bet is the St Tropez Self Tan Express from Notino because it offers three levels of tanning according to the time you leave it to develop:

– 1 hour: light tan

– 2 hours: medium tan

– 3 hours: dark tan

Furthermore, the ease of application really surprised me. But that is not everything, to be fair, I had no patches as a result of the fake tan. I will show you before and after images below. Let’s go into the tanning process!

Prepare your skin

Remember to exfoliate your skin one night prior to applying the tanning mouse. I’m using a skin colour balancing exfoliant, but I have used normal scrubs before and the tan process worked perfectly fine. If you don’t have a scrub at home, you could even prepare one with sugar or coffee.

Remove your clothing

You might want to remove your clothing and choose the bathroom as your place to tan. Just to avoid mess and stains on your bedsheets or carpet. Remove your clothes and leave them away from the bathroom.

Moisturise your wrists, elbows and knees

This is a trick I’ve learnt from watching loads of videos on tanning last year. It works! Take a tick body cream and apply it on: joints, wrists, elbows, knees and your feed. This will help to prevent patches and will smooth out the mousse. There’s nothing more unpleasant than having a concentration of mousse in one spot. If you’re not moisturising in these spots before, you are very likely to get that.

Cover your hands

I did not cover my hands while tanning here. You can see that my hands turned a bit darker. To avoid this, you can wear gloves and then apply a small amount of mousse all over them.

Start the process

You will want to start the process from your feet to your cleavage. Apply mousse on your St Tropez mitt and with circular motions, distribute it evenly on your skin.

The process continues

After you’ve applied your tanning mousse evenly, it’s time for you to leave it on for it to develop. Depending for how dark you want it, you can leave it on for one, two or three hours. I stayed on my bed, on a sheet that I could easily wash (but it was unstained anyway) and I was watching podcasts and responding to emails.

The results?

I left the tan lotion develop for three hours and it turned out very nice, glowy and summery! I’m beyond happy with the results, there’s no better product for tanning out there.

Remember to wear SPF

Remember, to wear your sunscreen especially when you’re fake tanning to protect your skin. It’s very important! Wearing SPF on your face will help you with keeping a young looking skin.

Head over to Notino to get your summer tan ready – enjoy your time tanning and looking fabulous for the season ahead.
