Self-sabotage happens when you hinder your own success. This means taking destructive steps and changing your behavior to negatively impact all your aspects in life. Especially the aspects of self-improvement and self-actualization.

It’s very easy to start sabotaging yourself when chasing a certain goal. Like developing healthier habits, being more productive, or building healthier relationships. Self-sabotaging attacks your self-esteem, your confidence and affects your overall life.Self-sabotage is thinking that with every failed attempt to achieve your goals, you prove to yourself that you can’t have future success. And the funny thing with self-sabotage is that at first you really don’t notice that you are sabotaging yourself. Here’s an insightful guide to show you exactly how to recognise sabotage and how to best fight it. You’ll be a new YOU after going through this.

The main reasons behind self-sabotage are fears, avoidance of doing things that are uncomfortable and your usual thinking patterns. How you react emotionally in certain situations and what thoughts you have in that certain moment, create your negative habits. I’ll show you how to recognize self-sabotage and 5 reasons as to why you do it.

Negative or faulty thinking

You overvalue the things you know and undervalue the things that you don’t know. This leads to overreacting risks and avoiding new approaches, staying in the same place of familiarity. You begin to tell yourself you are unworthy of success. That you can not achieve what you set for yourself and that your goals and dreams are too risky and not realistic. Thinking like this even before starting to do something is what aids self-sabotage. You need to trust yourself and your powers, and have confidence that no matter what things will be alright.

Fear of failure or rejection

Fear of failure or rejection is another reason for self-sabotage. Even if you start working towards your goals or creating the life you’ve wanted, thoughts of failure begin to creep in. You start to beat yourself up, that your efforts are not enough and you are not capable of achieving whatever you set out to achieve. You begin to accept failure as an option before having the end results, setting yourself up for failure by fearing the future. Trust in yourself that even if your efforts don’t give you what you worked for, it’s still progress. And it shows that you are willing to put the work in, no matter what.

Procrastination and avoidance

Another reason you self sabotage is avoiding dealing with all problems. Or not being on top of things and having the discipline to get work done. You haven’t created a system for yourself that allows you to tackle your to-do list in an efficient manner. Or you are just too tired to make a plan or a schedule for yourself. You procrastinate or avoid doing something because you might be a perfectionist and you think you need to have all the necessary skill sets before jumping into something. An important thing to remember is that no one was born with the knowledge on how to take on life. You just have to go for it, and learn along the way. If you never do what you set your mind to, you’ll never know what it takes to get there and what you can achieve.

You don’t know what you want

Living a life that most people want for you is another reason as to why you sabotage yourself. You might not know what your personal values and goals are. Have you wondered why you want to exercise or read a book beyond wanting to do them? Is it because someone told you to do it? Or is it because you want to do it for yourself to learn, grow and have a healthier mind and body? Question yourself every time you want to do something, is it meaningful? How will it help you, what will you achieve, what you will experience? It’s important to do the things YOU want to do. Set the goals YOU want to achieve and create the life YOU want to live.

Being a perfectionist in everything you do means holding yourself for unrealistic standards and expectations. You always tell yourself you need to work harder, learn more, but that is just a recipe for sabotage and failure. But what it does is give you motivation for the short-term. If your expectations and standards are unrealistic, you’re going to fail to reach them. Which in result gives you frustration, disappointment, and even starting to lose hope. While you are capable of anything you set your mind to, set goals that are realistic for the moment you are currently in. Goals and dreams can be shaped how you want them to. Trust that you can grow in your power and accomplish what you desire.

You need to break the cycle of negativity and trust in yourself. Everyone is different and each sets the goals they are sure they can achieve. Don’t strive for perfection, it doesn’t exist. Don’t set unrealistic goals for yourself because someone else is doing it. Set the goals that are aligned with your values and dreams. Trust in yourself that you will achieve them, even if now it doesn’t seem like it. You’ll learn and you’ll grow and will get to that point when you’ll say you’ve made it.

So, next time you set your mind to something, trust in yourself and recognize when you are starting to sabotage yourself. You now have the means to acknowledge self-sabotage and you know how to fight it. Download the FREE guide and start working on the life you’ve always dreamt of. You got this!

Words of affirmation are any spoken or written words that uplift, and support you. There are days, when you need a little positive reinforcement. And negative thoughts should not have to hold you down or affect your mood.

Sometimes, when you change a negative thought into a positive one, it helps you increase your confidence and boost your mood. Even if repeating positive statements seems challenging (because you might not believe them), you’ll notice that sooner or later you start to accept them as the truth. At the end of the day, you deserve to feel good, you deserve to create the life you’ve dreamt of.

A positive affirmation doesn’t only speaks to your conscious mind, but to your unconscious mind as well. Positive words of affirmation can be used to change your mindset, if you use them on a regular basis.

Here are 5 powerful words of affirmation you can use daily, especially on the days you don’t feel like yourself.

‘I love myself as I am’ | Words of affirmation

This is one of the most powerful and positive words of affirmation you can say on a daily basis. You need to accept your strengths and flaws. No one is perfect, and accepting that will make your life a lot easier. Embrace all that you are, because you are unique. Stop comparing yourself with other people. Stop forcing yourself to be a certain way just to fit in with certain people and in certain social gatherings. You start being happier when you embrace who you truly are. And that’s when wonderful things start to happen.

‘I’m in control of my life’

It’s important to remind yourself every time you wake up, that you are the driver of your own life. You are the main character, you are in the driver’s seat. You control your emotions, your thoughts, your career, your home, you control your life.

‘Happiness is my choice’ | Words of affirmation

Happiness is your choice. It doesn’t depend on getting a promotion, going to a concert or being in a relationship. Once you get your promotion at work, your joy will not stay. You’ll always find things and people to cling onto, to give you happiness. Happiness should be your choice, and it should come from within. It should not come from material things, or from other people.

‘I can handle all that comes my way’

You need to understand that in the real world, sometimes things don’t go your way, and that’s fine. Your plan can take a detour and that’s completely fine. You need to understand that in those moments, you can handle everything life throws at you. You are powerful, and your strengths will get you through any challenge.

‘Mistakes help me grow’

Mistakes are a natural part of life, it’s OK to make them. You are not perfect. Actually, making mistakes is how you learn and grow. They encourage us to think creatively and develop other solutions and aproaches.

Whether you are having a bad work week, or you got the Monday Blues, you can always say some positive words of affirmation to put you in the right mindset. Write them down in your planner, keep them on a list in your phone, or around the house to remind you to focus on the positive. And to give you the drive to keep going, to have confidence and to create the life you’ve always wanted.

Productivity measures how efficient you are when completing certain tasks during your day-to-day life. It most certainly doesn’t refer to the amount of things you’re involved in per day.

It mainly focuses on how you get things done in a competent manner.

Most productivity strategies tell you how to manage your to-do list, how to rapidly tick off whatever you had written down. They focus on short-term efficiency, how to get more done in the morning, how to shorten your weekly meetings, and so on.

What most people fail to realise is that the focus should be on creating a strategy that boosts productivity long-term. I’ll show a few things on how to use productivity to level up your life.

You neede to control your attention | Productivity

When you are starting to tackle your day to day tasks it’s important to actually focus on one thing at a time. Remember, you need to do things efficiently and consistently. Doing too many things at the same time is actually what destroys productivity. So, the first thing you need to start doing is controlling your attention. The more attention you give to important things, the more present you are in the moment gets you closer to achieving your goals and your desired results.

Manage your energy and boost your productivity

You need to acknowledge at what time in the day you are most efficient. Find out if you’re a Lark on an Owl here. If you need to do a significant amount of things that require you to be in the present moment, identify when you have the most energy to actually focus on what you have to do. This is the most simple trick you can do to be more productive and level up your life.

I’ve put together a set of exercises that help me stay productive and get ahead on a daily basis. You have to try them! You can download it for FREE here.

Design your morning routine

Stop checking your email, calendar and phone. Stop others from dictating what things you need to accomplish. Make this decision by yourself. If you are able to, work out in the morning, meditate. Do things that give you the necessary energy to actually be productive throughout your entire day.

Inspire yourself from other people

Inspire yourself from the people you admire. Take their example on how they get the most out of their life. They must be doing something right, isn’t it? Try to incorporate some of their habits into your life too.

Take care of yourself

The number one thing when talking about productivity is taking care of yourself. How else can productivity help you level up your life, if you don’t care about yourself? Create a sustainable and healthy approach in life. Prioritize having a balanced diet, moving your body daily in a way that it’s not straining you. Then you’ll notice that you have more energy to be more productive and actually start chasing your goals and making your dreams a reality.

Embrace procrastination

Procrastination is seen as something that you should run from as far as you can. Well, sometimes your brain needs to actually stop and procrastinate. You need to give yourself and your brain a break. Being in a constant work mode is not actually healthy. You can actually use procrastination to your advantage. In the moments that your brain tells you that it wants a break, listen to a podcast, read a book, soak up some sun. Recharge yourself so that you are ready to tackle the rest of the day.

Doing these things can help you be more productive, and keep you focused on the task at hand. You can establish healthy boundaries in your life and stop letting others dictate how you should do your work. And most importantly how you can live your life.
