No meetings on the calendar, no events you need to attend but the one that you organise for yourself: a relaxing day where you do just what you want! I recently had one of those and I picked to attend the London Cocktail festival, eat Italian and spend some time at the cool bars at the Shard. For that day I wore something else, but for days when I just have a walk or enjoy my time outside, I have my favourite outfit that I will share with you today. So, what should you wear to make the best out of your casual day?
Shape the season in style
It’s not huge news that everyone goes wild on layering in Autumn. Whilst I feel that layering is important and gives that umpf to your outfit (yes, umpf), I like to keep the layering to a minimum on casual days. Two layers is enough for me to feel like I’m in control of my outfit and nothing will be falling off. Do you ever have that feeling that your three-layer outfit looks good only if you wear it in three layers? What I mean by this is: if I decide to lose one layer during the day because it’s too warm, I feel I destroyed the whole concept. Rest assured, that doesn’t mean I don’t wear layers but I’m just more cautious with it; that type of making sure the outfit is still looking snatched. Take your wardrobe on the layering adventure in times when you’re feeling up for it.
What to wear on a casual day?
Nothing says casual more than a vintage denim shirt! Don’t you think so? It says: I’m relaxed, but super pretty. Taken from a charity shop three years ago, this shirt is my number one love for casual days. So, shop the thrift shops for goodies that last.
Obviously if going for a walk you need something comfy on top of that; as I’m not a massive fan of hoodies and the only one I own is a university branded one, I opted for a vest. It’s my shepherd vest which I love to bits. If anyone has a comment, I just say ‘I’m a shepherd’ and it makes people laugh. Fashion is fun and it’s all about embracing what you love to wear. I would recommend you to be confident and take a stand for the things you want to wear even though they might seem unusual to people. Who cares? It’s you who wears the clothes and if you decide to be fun, then be it.
Consider the fact that if you do quite a bit of walking, your shoes need to comply to the standards. I live in my boots and you know it, but whatever is comfy for you but also makes you feel put together, it’s worth wearing. I’ll let you choose trainers for this – I think it’s the only occasion when I think you can get away with it, besides the gym.
Accessories wise, just keep them to a minimum if you’re looking for comfort. A watch that compliments the outfit and has that ‘borrowed from the boys’ look will make your appearance relaxed, but also stylish. The Obaku Viol Granite watch gives me that feeling of I didn’t put too much effort into looking amazing, but I do. It’s that Swedish minimalist design that makes me absolutely love wearing it.
I hope this outfit gave you a quick look into a casual chic outfit for a day out and about. It was mental health awareness day and I believe the best way of celebrating it is to take time for yourself. A relaxed day where you plan to do exactly what you absolutely love doing is the perfect escape from things that stress us every day. Now that you have the right outfit for it, what are you waiting for?
