Self care, wellbeing, mindfulness. They are words that I haven’t really used until recently. As you grow up you start to realise how important it is to look after yourself and spend some extra time for your wellbeing. I’m sharing with you 10 ways to practice self care even though you’re completely new to the subject and have little time to assign to it.

Start short sessions of meditation

If you haven’t practiced any type of meditation before, a great place to start would be an app or an audible playlist. There are apps out there that help you meditate; it’s such as having your own personal coach guiding you through meditation everyday. I started my meditation series with Simple Habit last summer by listening to a shooting voice teaching me all about breathing techniques, the power of our imagination to bring happy thoughts and becoming more positive, just before drifting off to sleep. I’m always looking forward to that moment of my day, either that’s 5 or 10 minutes I can dedicate to it. Have a look on app store / google play and pick one app that works for you – usually they’re free, but you can upgrade to unlock other meditation exercises if you’d like to. The fun part is that you can meditate on your commute, as soon as you wake up in the morning, on your work break or while in bed at night. Whenever works for you.

Take moments for yourself

This might sound straightforward, but not a lot of us do this consciously. You might have a lot on your plate right now, from juggling work to doing your daily house keeping stuff, socialising with people, taking time to sort your other projects. These things take a lot of energy out of you, without you realising it. It’s not like going to the gym for 20 min and then feeling exhausted right away. No. A busy schedule will make you tired in the long run. Say you’ll feel it at the end of the week or month. When you realise you’re involved in too many things at once, create a schedule and allow yourself to take a breather. Right in the middle of my day I like to disconnect by going to the gym / for a run, by doing yoga or by just watching an inspiring video. It’s very important that you consciously realise that the moment is for yourself, for your own wellbeing.

Be grateful

I’ve learnt this during my meditation practices; being grateful that we’re alive and that we’ve had so many accomplishments this far is an amazing deed that we can do for ourselves. Be grateful and put things into perspective, you have a whole life in front of you to create even more great accomplishments & wonderful memories. It works like magic for me and I truly recommend you try it. You’ll notice positive thoughts running through your head at random times of the day.

Allow yourself to experience emotions

Either good or bad, emotions need to be let out. We all have rough days when we can’t feel as positive. Allow yourself to just be! Don’t feel pressured to feel something else than you’re experiencing. For as long as you need. Then, try to get back on your positive vibes. It’s important to acknowledge the feeling and then move on.

Enjoy ever mouthful

Having time to fully enjoy your meal is vital. Take at least one meal a day where you sit down and eat your food without doing something else (eg. working). While we eat dinner, me and Andrei like to either chat or watch an entertaining video to disconnect a little bit before we go back to working on our projects. I recommend you do the same and have that as your daily objective. You’ll feel so much better at the end of the day.

Don’t judge yourself too harshly

We all have our own plans and objectives. Some of us even run our businesses while working full time and that means juggling a lot and accomplishing a lot on both plans. The mistake some of us do is judging ourselves on the daily instead of focusing on the yearly. What that means is that if one of your posts as a blogger didn’t do well today or if your sales are down today, that’s not a big deal at all. Look at it from a year’s perspective, did you grow your views / following or did you make more sales than last year? That’s your KPI and should feel proud. That’s something that I started doing recently and it definitely opens up a new perspective.

Avoid running into stressful situations

Ahh, I used to be the queen of running into stressful situations in every circumstance because I wasn’t organised enough. Of course there are situations like that even today, but they occur less because I’m tired of not organising myself and forgetting small pieces of the puzzle. Say you need to go on a short trip, you might want to plan you outfits in advance, do your research on all the places you want to see (including the distance between them) and pack some extra helpful items such as an umbrella, plasters. You’ll save time deciding what to wear in the morning and those nice things you wanted to see might be on your way and run into them randomly during the day while you’re out and about! Same goes for going to work and planning your meals. Just give an extra 5 minutes of planning and you’ll be running into less stressful situations.

Relaxing bath

It’s a cliché, but taking a relaxing bath really has the power to make you feel more at ease. The sweet scent of your bubble foam or oils, the lukewarm water and the lit candles contribute to lifting your mood and inducing you into a state of relaxation. Even 20 min of soaking will make a difference. These are moments you can take for yourself and choose health over any work you might have due. Everything else can wait and it’s ok.

Practice your hobby

We all have one! It can be painting (mine is), playing an instrument, reading or cycling. In today’s world where we’re pressured to do everything we need to do, there is literally little time left for practicing our hobbies. Although that is the case, we still need to find time for hobbies. That half an hour of cooking can easily be reduced to 15 minutes if you’re looking at the right recipe. Cut time on mundane activities and allow yourself more time for some fun stuff! It’s all going back to being organised.

Declutter & disconnect

Besides decluttering your home, it’s important for your mind to declutter your email box (yeah that one running out of space now) and your iPhone that is running out of space. I only keep my phone on silent mode because who needs to hear all those alerts? It’s a good idea yo disconnect from your phone or social media life when you get home from work and a little bit before bed. Choose meditation instead if scrolling on feeds.

Self care is highly important and the more we focus on our mind, the better we perform in other areas of our lives: relationships with others, daily activities, planning your time. I hope you enjoyed this post and that will make you start practicing self-care from now on, or add a different activity to your current routine. Which one of these tips would be the easiest for you to take right now?

Hello my lovelies and Happy New Year,

Either you started the new year with a resolution and new plans or you simply just went on with it, you clearly must have felt something inside when the new year had started. Inevitably, the idea of new beginnings is somehow implemented in our minds by the way the world works, but you don’t have to feel the social pressure. You just have to do everything you can to make yourself happy and that’s all that matters. That’s why, today I am giving you top tips on how to start the year positive and feel at your best while doing so.

❤

Start by changing your vocabulary with action words

Positive talking inspires positive thinking. Believe it or not, when we say something out loud, our subconscious mind fully believes it. If you say ‘I hope to get a good grade on my Marketing exam’ it will actually translate to your subconscious as ‘There are chances I won’t get that exam’. Start by replacing ‘hope’ with ‘will’ and your results will change significantly. Just notice the difference a verb can make in the statement ‘I will get get a good grade on my Marketing exam’. Same goes for verbs such as ‘could’ or ‘may’. Powerful vocabulary will empower you to achieve everything you plan.

Talk positively about your life experiences

Have you noticed how often we complain about stuff? How we tend to blame others or other circumstances for our ‘bad experiences’? Susan Jeffers stated that we are a result of how we react to different situations in our lives and we only have two options: to choose to be happy or to moan and groan. Next time you’re facing an unpleasant situation such as a card loss, traffic jam, delays and so on, keep your strength and just go on with it as there’s nothing you could do about the situation, but make the most of it. How? If my train or flight is delayed I focus on getting work done instead, or if I lose a credit card (which I did last month), I just order a new one and feel happy no one has used it contactless. Instead of complaining to others about these ‘injustices’ take yourself from the position of a victim to one of a powerful positive person and you’ll gain so much more.

Stop judging others and surround yourself by positive people

Sometimes we feel unhappy about others, but judging someone else frequently is a time waste. Wait until you understand the whole context until you can form an opinion for yourself. Ask yourself ‘Why did that action of hers bothered me so much?’ Most of the time it’s you who is taking things in a wrong way or get upset because your own frustrations, but you need to assess the situation objectively to put your finger on it. You should stay away from people who are not supporting your growth and surround yourself by kind and loving people like yourself.

Say ‘yes’ more often

It’s so easy to say no and shut the door to people and opportunities. I often fell into this trap, but I choose to say ‘yes’ as often as possible. Let’s make time to meet our good friend for coffee or go to the gym more often. Life is a series of amazing opportunities that we only need to respond to.

Bring out your colours

And if you thought there’s nothing like positive dressing, for me it definitely is. Wearing nudes or colours brings a lot more positives in my life. You should try it too.

I feel so happy I shared this with you today and truly hope it will change your attitude towards life for the better. It will take a while to make the changes, but practice my tips everyday and you’ll live a more positive life.

Feeling stuck? We all have moments when we feel stuck and we might experience a sort of mental block. Well, this happened to me recently; I didn’t feel like doing anything, let alone get creative with content ideas. In the first instance, I blamed the weather and my deep desire of having a bit of sunshine. I woke up late one morning and while I was scrolling on Instagram (I love to spend one hour in bed and just read fashion posts), I’ve seen this post ‘Put your hair in a bun, drink coffee and deal with it!’. It hit me! It’s in your power to lift your mood and make a change, I’ve known that for a while now, but sometimes you just need that push. I still can’t believe a simple post like that triggered me. If you’re feeling unmotivated or not feeling like yourself, it’s ok to get mad at that, but also try to find a solution to get out if it. Easier to say than do, right? Not to worry, I have put together a plan to motivate you again and I really hope you’ll takeaway something from it today 🙂

1. Don’t Settle in the Bad Mood

It’s so easy to settle in the bad mood and continue to feel miserable. Why do it, though? You have the power to lift your mood and before starting to do anything, bear that in mind. It will give you positive energy to actually do something about it.

2. An hour of Browsing your Favourite Magazines

Loving fashion, design or art? Or all of them? Emerse yourself in the artistic environment and guaranteed your mood will be lifted! All Versace jewerlly, Balenciaga shoes and Chanel suits shown in Vogue, Elle or Glamour will inspire you to dream with your eyes open. The Art and Travel sections in Vogue always make me discover something new like hot beaches and new London exhibitions that I’m adding to my never ending lists. When I feel less creative, getting in contact with artists that way always makes me feel positive. It’s therapy trough ART.

3. Watch a Stand-Up Comedy Show

Either on YouTube or live, a stand-up comedy show makes me laugh with tears even in my worst days. Ricky Gervais is one of my favourites on YouTube, and me and my boyfriend usually go to Top-Secret Comedy Club in Covent Garden for a good live show and a great laugh!

4. Style Your Hair and do Your Nails

When my hair looks great, I feel amazing! Even though you don’t feel like it, style your hair differently when you’re feeling down. It’s a mood booster! Try out a new beauty salon or do it yourself at home. I recently went to Jonathan Lever for a blow dry and I was supper happy with the relaxed curls the stylist gave me. So, hair on point can mean day on point. Nails are super important too, and good manicure makes me feel put together. To reinvent that quote:  ‘Style your hair, do your nails and conquer the day’.

5. Get Creative!

Step out from that bad mood you’re in by getting creative. If you’re a blogger, read other blogs and fashion magazines, watch documentaries and try to come up with new ideas for your blog. I take great inspiration from Sofia Amoruso (founder of Nasty Gal, author of Girl Boss) and Maria Hatziesfanis (founder of Rodial, author of How to Build an Overnight Success), so I love watching interviews with them to get my creativity going. If you didn’t read their books yet, I totally recommend them as they will change your perspective on building your personal brand! P.S: Read while you commute to save precious time.

6. Go on a Street Food Market Stroll

Invite a friend with you for a street food market stroll! I love the street food on Notting Hill Market & Camden! Even though it rains, in Notting Hill you can eat and drink inside. After that, why not going to the beauty salon together to get that fresh style I mentioned earlier?

What would be something that you do when you don’t feel 100% good? Let me know in the comment section below 🙂

10 things I’ve learnt by the time I’ve turned 22

     1.  Don’t be ashamed of not knowing everything- always be happy to learn

I remember I was chatting to an older guy some years ago and I didn’t know a random fact that seemed quite obvious to me. I immediately apologised for my lack of knowledge but it was what he replied to me that stuck with me until now. He assured me: Don’t ever apologise for what you don’t know. We’re all on a life journey that will make us richer everyday. It’s natural not knowing everything! So, now I only feel ashamed if I don’t have an interest in learning – it can be anything related to digital marketing, painting, fashion or love.

     2. Be positive and embrace every moment of your life and great things will happen to you

This can sound like a huge cliché but trust me there’s nothing more wonderful than being grateful for every moment you get to spend in your life. There are times during the day when I just appreciate a smile, an hour in the gym (just joined recently), a good coffee. That’s the way to a more positive – therefore, better life.

   3. Everything is possible! You just need to be really perseverant if you want to reach your ultimate goal

Step out from your comfort zone and fully embrace your goal. Let’s say you plan to travel to Bali next summer. If visiting Bali is your goal, then do everything it takes to get there (nothing illegal please). Save up by maybe let’s say, not eating out so much, exclude impulsive buying and save the ultimate fashion shopping for when you arrive there. Think about how worthy it will be, keep your goal in your mind and get there. It requires different sacrifices, but you’ll get where you want.

4.Don’t allow anyone kill your vibe (just don’t!)

Get away from people that don’t show support or inspire you to grow and be more positive. They are the vibe killers and energy suckers that you don’t need in your life!

5.Embracing a healthy lifestyle will highly contribute to your general mood

I can’t stress how important this is! I used to not eat as healthy as I could and with the support of my wonderful (knows all about health) boyfriend I started to make the change last February. On top of eating healthy, quite recently I joined a gym near my office and it’s amazing that I can get there during my lunch break. I feel so much better than last year and I can actually see how slim and healthy my body looks.  Please let me know if you would like a more detailed post on that.

    6. Being pro-active and bold will take you to the top of the game

I’m pro-active by nature, but I couldn’t help but notice that not everyone is. That can be ok in cases, but if you want to make yourself stand out and be the best at what you plan to do, you have to make yourself stand out and more importantly truly seek the opportunities to progress. In the end of the day, no one will be responsible for the things you didn’t do… no one but yourself.

   7. Never forget your starting point

This has to do a lot with the way you’ve been brought up, but as a basic advice that I can give to you: never forget your starting point. Growing and reaching your goals should inspire others to do so themselves, not to make them feel less about themselves.

   8. Don’t waste time on unimportant things

If something is not important for you at the moment, just don’t waste time on it. Learning to prioritise is key in your personal development. It’s important to always look at the bigger picture.

  9. Don’t comply yourself with a situation you don’t like

Don’t like something? Change it. There are many ways in which you can change minor things to reflect your desired way of living. On a small scale – don’t like your assigned seat on the train because it’s too cold / hot there? Do something and move to a better one. Don’t be afraid to speak out and do what’s best for you. This is just a little example but you get my point.

   10. Love your family & friends and make them feel you do so

I love to make my favourite people feel loved and cared about. I would do anything for them and I believe it’s important to make them know it. Surprising them with acts of kindness or little gifts I know they love is super important to me. Keeping in touch of them on a constant basis will do so much for your relationship.

And these are my top 10 things I’ve learnt until today. I am really happy to share with you this side of me and truly hope it will make you consider some. What is one thing you’ve learnt that constantly guides you actions? Let’s catch up in the comments below! It would mean the world to me to hear about your life experiences.

Until next time,

MISSANDRADA
