Feeling a bit unmotivated at work? It’s quite normal to lose your motivation at some point, so don’t panic. We’re not robots, although sometimes I wish we were. We need to constantly adapt to living conditions, our tired body, consumed minds and busy lifestyle. There are times when we had enough, we need to take a breather and then start all over again, perhaps with a different perspective. These are 6 ways to find your motivation at work

As you might have seen on my social media channels, it was my birthday yesterday. I’ve just turned 24 and I feel incredibly powerful. Yes, I feel powerful because my life experiences have made me feel confident. This article is about sharing what I’ve learnt in my life so far, aiming to ‘inspire’ (quotation marks there because I don’t really like that word) you to look at certain things from a different light.

Always trust your instinct

It might be scary and even too much sometimes, but if your instinct is telling you something, just trust it. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t come up with a rational plan for your actions because don’t get me wrong, we’re rational beings as we are emotional, but use your instinct as a guide. Mine was never wrong, or better yet, mine always led me to beautiful destinations and I’m sure yours will too.

Don’t let anyone bring you down

Some people will always think they know better about everything. They don’t. No one knows what’s best for you better than yourself. If someone tries to bring you down and not giving you actual advice or ‘feedback’ (careful with this feedback though because it’s not well intended all the time), there’s no point to listen to their opinion. You know phrases like ‘I’m not sure if you should do that’ or ‘I think your priorities are not set straight’, I personally understand where they come from, but it’s important how the person communicates it to you. These two affirmations show lack of knowledge because no one can ever tell you which are your priorities. Don’t let other people bring you down with the way they speak to you even though it’s non-intentional. Use positive words and explain how that can affect your relationship. If they do want to bring you down, just distance yourself from that poisonous relationship. Easy!

Believe in your own power to succeed

Cliche or not, this is one of the best pieces of advice I could give you. I touched on the importance of believing in your own power to succeed in this article. If you haven’t read it yet, have a look at it for a more in-depth chat. What I would love for you to do right now is to picture where you want to get and believe with your whole heart that you have to get there. Guess what? You will! There were situations in my life when I had to believe in myself and my power to succeed and without that inner strength I’m not sure that I would have gotten to where I am today. Had to have a lot of strength when I moved on my own at 19 to study marketing in the UK, when I quit my job just to find another one two weeks later and to quit that new one after two weeks because it wasn’t a match! Be bold and don’t look back, as hard as it may be.

See the good in people first

It took me a while to be good at this to be honest. I used to be judging others and be more inclined to dislike new people rather than give them a fair chance. I haven’t analysed why but the point is that now I welcome people in my life and start seeing the good in them from the beginning! I encourage you to do the same because you never know who can become your absolute best friend.

Give your best to make your friends feel amazing

When you have friends over or when you meet up out give your best to make them feel great in your company. Leave your negative vibes aside and be the persons who says ‘you look so pretty today’! When they do stay over, make sure they feel at home. Look at all little details that can make their stay amazing: ear pods, night masks, chargers, welcome gifts, carefully prepare food. Give them a stay to remember. It will make you so happy to offer something from your heart and your relationship will only become better and better.

Give 100% in everything you do

Do things with passion and put your 100% in everything you do: projects, relationships, university work. Only this way, you can be the best version of yourself.

Be DEDICATED to achieving your goals

Sometimes we don’t feel like putting in the work or we often prefer to hang out than put in the effort. Goal achievement is a lot of work, a lot of ups & downs and most importantly is a lot of dedication. Don’t think that people who succeeded did so over night. You need to be dedicated, passionate and absolutely sure you’ll do your best.

Motivate yourself when you’re feeling down

I have some moments when I’m not as motivated, when I’d rather watch YouTube than work out for example. In those moments, I am motivating myself to get out and do it. Having that end goal in mind is so essential when it comes to motivation. Sometimes, I do feel down and I put myself in a better mood by lighting a candle or reading a few pages of a good book. I totally recommend finding your own motivation routine: podcasts, books, videos to keep yourself on the right track.

Get surrounded by people who aspire towards something great

You know how important it is to have people who are doing great around you? Energy is transferable and good energy is really contagious. It’s equally important that your friends not only do great, but aspire to do better all the time.

Don’t give up when things get though

EASY to say, right? Just practice your own motivation techniques and believe in yourself to have the power to continue when things get though. It’s the hard part of the process of evolution, but it’s paying off.

It’s ok to have ‘bad’ days

Yes, you can motivate yourself and yes it may not work one day and that’s ok. Accept yourself. Accept your moods.

Learn life admin things early (moving houses, paying bills, credit cards, buying cars)

Let me tell you, either you like it or not life admin things make you a responsible person. Read online about opening a credit card to improve your credit score, learn how to better pack and move houses, research buying your own car to be less dependent on public transportation. The sooner you learn all these things, the better for you!

Allow yourself a bit of time to learn something new often

One of my favourite things to do is to learn something new about history, interior design or different cultures. I often browse the Netflix section for documentary / lifestyle shows that not only entertain me, but teach me something new as well! It helps me stay updated and grow my general knowledge which is something I highly value in everyone.

Learn how to love

Learn how to love and do it selflessly.

Love your family, life partner and friends with all your heart

Love them with all your heart and offer them your time because it’s the most precious gift, after actual gifts.

Invest more money in travelling and cool experiences rather than shoes

Experience, travelling and embracing new cultures = that’s what life is about for me. Shoes and other goods are important too, but they come second 😉

Have relaxing moments with yourself

Run a bath, watch something relaxing, paint. Allow yourself to relax!

Find happiness in something good that you do

I recently discovered my passion for interior design. I design rooms on my Ipad or read about the subject online and it makes me so happy. I also love cooking healthy food and enjoy every mouthful!

Always aspire to grow on all plans

Grow and look at your performance 🙂

Enjoy every single moment of your life

This one speaks for itself!

Show your appreciation to others sooner rather than later

Show appreciation as soon as you feel it! Don’t hide your feelings.

Don’t judge and don’t moan & groan

Stop judging and instead of complaining about situations, find positive things to talk about. You can’t change the past, can you? You can only focus on what’s to come.

For fellow bloggers out there, do your thing & people will love you

Express yourself and don’t be afraid to share your thoughts with the world. Stop obessing about the numbers and just to you thing 🙂

Hello my favourite readers,

I came across this article in a magazine recently where they discussed about how important it is for your clothes to match the way you feel. Well, that’s interesting I said to myself! Then, I went away and think about how would this apply to me? I realised that for me, to feel positive and motivated I need clothes to lift me up and empower me rather than match the way I feel. What if I feel lazy and tired? I wouldn’t want to wear things that encourage me to stay in that state of mind, but rather to dress in such a way to push myself forward. That’s the inspiration for today’s article on how to express your positivity through your fashion style. Keep on reading to find out exactly what you need to do to motivate yourself on a day when you don’t feel like doing pretty much anything!

1. Wear the same colour mix

I touched on this in my previous post actually, but wearing a single colour or similar colours really make me feel relaxed and ready to start working on my goals for the day. It’s my little trick of motivating myself in those days when I would rather go to a spa instead, even on weekends.

2. Give stylish belts a GO

Are you accessorising your outfits frequently? That’s great! I feel like belts are doing so much for an outfit, far more than bracelets or necklaces. The whole vibe changes when I add a belt – especially if it has wide gold elements on it. Try wearing different shapes of belts (narrow or wide) and see which ones work best for different outfits. I would recommend narrow ones for skirts and wide ones for jeans or worn on top of your outwear coat. Get ready to take your outfits to another level.

3. Wear your hair in a stylish bun

Sometimes a stylish bun is exactly what you need to get your motivation on. For me a bun says ‘I can do this’ louder than hair worn down (unless it’s curly). Who’s with me? 🙋🏻 Put your bun on and expect loads of motivation kicking it. Actually don’t expect it, it’s a mind exercise – imagine it kicking in! 

4. Wear your favourite shirt

Wearing your favourite shirt can do wonders to your mood. Wear it when you feel down or unmotivated to feel a little bit happy inside.

5. Say hi to smart shoes!

Hello, beautiful shoes. I know trainers can be comfy and trendy, however I feel like they won’t help your mood. Getting too comfy is not going to boost your motivation, but the opposite. Stay classy and go for smart shoes or sandals over the ‘everyday’ sports shoes.

6. Apply a natural glowy make-up (Kourtney K style)

Can we just take a moment to appreciate this video of Kourtney K for Vogue? Love her or hate her, she actually shared some actionable tips in here. I love this natural look and it will just make you feel so fresh! P.S: Try the scrub she made, it’s awesome – I used it on dry lips and worked wonders.

7. Nourish yourself with a protein salad

I love to cook healthy (if it’s under 15 minutes of course) and treat myself to a nice nourishing meal. On a day where I feel down and need something to lift my mood, I would prepare a delicious Salmon or Tuna, Avocado & Spinach Salad and enjoy it to the fullest. It’s not just yummy, but it will also make you feel amazing from inside out as spinach contains Iron, Calcium & Magnesium and salmon is packed with Omega 3 and Selenium that improve brain function & contribute to your neurological health.

8.  Listen to your favourite podcast to get you going

I’ve started listening to Podcasts lately when I prepare food or when I put make-up on, instead of the usual background music. One Podcast that inspires me to give my best and constantly work for my goals is the Overnight success by Maria Hatzistefanis – founder of Rodial and Nip&Fab. I admire her so much for not giving up on her dream of establishing a beauty brand and working constantly for six years without seeing profits! That’s what I call a real commitment and dedication. Her podcast is about lifestyle, fitness and tips on achieving success from different entrepreneurs in various industries. If you’re not feeling too motivated, make sure you tune it first thing in the morning while you’re getting ready or on your way to work. It’s a real mood booster for me!

9. Practice Positive Vocabulary

I mentioned the importance of speaking positively in the How to Become Your Most Confident Self | Action your Life Now post, and if you haven’t checked it already,  head over to it and decide for yourself if the power of words can influence your mood. I say, they certainly can 😉

10.  Go for a run

Even if you’re not a runner or a workout fanatic, going for a quick jog will lift you up and make you feel more in control. I moved out recently and I am now making the most out of my backyard by going for a run around the flat buildings & the backyard. It’s such a great therapy for when I’m feeling tense or unmotivated. Since I stopped going to the gym, I have replaced that routine with a run and workout exercises in the garage. Although you mind not feel like it, resit the urge to come up with excuses and just go. You will feel amazing afterwards! I would love to recommend a playlist, but I don’t actually listen to music when I work out, perhaps I should listen to some good tunes to keep me going.
